harsh.92 Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Hi, I am in the process of writing my statement of purpose for a few research internships and I had a doubt which I thought you guys might be able to clear The complete application consists of my CV, Letter of recommendations, and Statement of purpose. What I want to ask is that since in the CV I am giving a brief idea about the undergraduate project that I was involved in, do I mention about the objectives of the project again in the Statement of Purpose. The LOR from the faculty advisor of that project would also talk about the project again. So basically is it a good idea to talk about the same thing thrice in the application. for example: I got introduced to Image Processing and Computer Vision in my freshmen year at X X University when I applied as a software developer in AB which is an undergraduate research project that aims to develop indigenous technological solutions for UAVs to reduce India’s reliance on Commercial Off the Shelf products. It has recently developed a UAV in collaboration with CD. The team also participates in a EFGH competition every year. I decided to apply in the Machine Vision department because the idea that objects can be identified autonomously in images using mathematical models was almost magical to me and the idea of replicating human vision excited me. Now I have already mentioned about the AB research project already in my resume so do I mention it again here in the SOP or I just write something like this. I got introduced to Image Processing and Computer Vision in my freshmen year at X X University when I applied as a software developer in AB.I decided to apply in the Machine Vision department because the idea that objects can be identified autonomously in images using mathematical models was almost magical to me and the idea of replicating human vision excited me. thanks in advance for your valuable suggestions.
selecttext Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Keep it short and use it conveniently. For example: "My BSc project on ... required that i learn ... which will undoubtedly contribute to my success in graduate school because...". The SOP should be about the contents of your character and not the contents of your project.
