Joseph G. Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Hello all, I spent a couple of months writing my SOP last semester, and in it I stated that would be taking a certain graduate class this semester. However, the class ended up not making enrollment, and thus it was cancelled. I submitted the SOP to all the schools I applied to and the end of last semester, so I wasn't able to edit the document. By looking at my transcripts, someone can see that I haven't taken the course. My question is as follows: Should I be worried about this? Will Graduate Admissions look at this and say, "This guy is a liar!! Rejection!!" ? Am I making a mountain out of a molehill? Note that I'm not worried about the material in the course. I have been in contact with the professor who was supposed to teach the course, and he has emailed me all the lecture notes, and I have the text.
gubidal092 Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 I had a similar problem with a few of my applications, but haven't done anything to correct it. I don't think you need to be too worried. If anyone asks about this semester and how it went, you can address the courses and what changed then. Professors understand that some courses don't make and you're not responsible for your schedule changing.
selecttext Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 I seriously doubt they will notice but if you are worried, you can write a short paragraph to be appended onto your SOP. Just contact the graduate secretaries - they are usually sympathetic. .
Joseph G. Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 Thank you for your responses! I guess I'm just worrying over nothing, this whole process is really stressful >.<
gubidal092 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I completely understand; this whole waiting game has got me mentally revising my entire statement of purpose and questioning all my application decisions.
