Wierd phone interview from Syracuse

So I have been waiting for months to hear from the MFA program from Syracuse and finally got a call sunday night at 9 o'clock!!! Is that odd to anyone else? I was far from prepared to answer questions, but he said they are needing to make a decision quickly so I just went with it. Thought I wasn't doing too well because the professor seemed distracted and unamused, but in the middle of me answering me one of his questions... he cut me off saying "sorry I am in a cab, hang on a sec.... ok what were you saying?" Could he write down my answers, or even look at my application in a dark cab? Are some of the phone interviews just a formality? I just didnt know what to think about it, plus I am from Texas and him being from NY- he laughed at absolutely zero of my wit... :?
