gatorgrad Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I'm working on a second BA right now. I have two LOR's from my first BA, but they're both from teachers who were doctoral candidates. I never really had any actual Ph.D'd professors. Would it hurt me to submit one of those along with an LOR or two from professors from my second BA? Maybe one from first, one from this one, and a previous employer? I know that having an actual Ph.D write an LOR is more valuable than a doctoral candidate, but the two letters I have are incredibly strong. Thanks!
uromastyx Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 In my personal opinion LORs from grad students is a very bad idea. Your parents would write "very strong" letters as well. It's not just the content, but the source as well. You must understand how this will look to adcomms. Regardless of how strong they are they will carry very little weight. I highly recommend reconsidering. Submitting two (of 3!!) letters from grad students is a bit suicidal. Is there anyone else? Even a professional rec? Do you have time to strengthen relationships with current profs??
selecttext Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 it's hard to believe that the majority of your professors were PhD candidates. Have these referees obtained their doctorates and are they now professors? If I were you, I would make sure to have at least 2 faculty members.
