goose2345 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 I was just accepted to the Aerospace Engineering Masters program at UIUC. However, no word on funding yet. What should I do to increase my chances of securing funding? I have already emailed a professor who I hope to do research with but will contacting graduate admissions help secure a possible TA or RA position?
Radian Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 You can contact the department for TA. for RA you should concentrate on contacting faculty members. As a master it's sort of hard to secure funding for the first semester. I was in the same boat as you. I could secure funding as RA from second semester though.
ShortLong Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Are you interested in doing a PhD? I was told that they do not accept people directly into the PhD program unless they have a Masters, but if you have over a 3.75 in undergrad and a professor willing to sponsor you, you can apply for the direct PhD program and skip the Masters. If you indicate your interest in doing that, it might increase your chances of finding a professor to fund you. goose2345 1
goose2345 Posted February 16, 2013 Author Posted February 16, 2013 I do think I screwed up not applying for a PhD considering I am fairly certain that is my ultimate goal.
