Fingers-Crossed Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 I know this isn't the answer you want when you go to a forum like this, because you want us to tell you what to do, but the only answer to this question is that it depends on what you want to do after you graduate. For fairness' sake, I will tell you that I, ultimately, opted for MSIE when I faced the same choice. Transportation and Logistics is a very interesting and reasonably lucrative field. If you do attend the SCE program, you would be highly specialized for this field and would definitely be in a good position to find work once you graduate. I also really like that they have even more opportunities to work on real problems while in school through their industry partners. My present employer was one of these partners which got me looking into this program in the first place. However, this degree, being specialized, would make it more difficult if you decide to look in other industries after you graduate. Certainly, you aren't fully locked in, but you may find it harder to get in to anything other than transportation and logistics. In my case, although I've enjoyed working in logistics and it is what steered me to Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, I'm not so confident that this is the only industry that I want to stay in. I find many industries full of challenges that I could see getting in to. Therefore, I chose to keep my outlook more open to other industries. This degree may take longer and be more theory-based, but at least it will be regarded well, no matter where I end up after school. Don't take this the wrong way, though. If you want to be a Supply Chain Engineer, or in any other capacity within logistics, the specialized degree is DEFINATELY the way to go.
