LMNOPQRX Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 So, this sounds like a dumb question... But as far as I can tell from all my forum-stalking, it seems like everyone who has gotten an interview with UPENN for the MSW program has gotten accepted. Is that a thing? Or am I just being a little too hopeful that as long as I don't blow the interview, I have a real shot at getting in? The waiting game is killing me. I just had to ask.
gradschoolmom Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 No. I was going to update, but I received my rejection yesterday. The typical trend I'm seeing is that if you receive an acceptance pretty quickly (say a week or less after interviewing) you're more likely to be accepted. I received my rejection 2 weeks to the date of my interview. My letter was actually dated 2/18 but wasn't mailed until the 25th. I'm sorry I wasn't accepted but it was obviously not the right program for me and I feel your pain with the waiting game. I wish you a lot of luck!
RubySohoPDX Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 From what I've gathered, the interview is standard procedure for almost everyone I believe (unless an application is missing something big). My interview went well and the director of admissions even said she was recommending me for admission but still had to send my application off to a faculty member to review and that sometimes the faculty surprise her with who they reject or accept. Also, regarding the timing of notices, I think that's random as well. My interviewer noted it could be two days to three weeks until I find out depending on who gets my application. One person on the results forum said she got her rejection letter almost immediately after her interview. I think she said something like "it seems like thy mailed the letter right as I walked out of the office". I know the wait can be so intense though! Cagirlsoul, when was your interview? Mine was a week ago, so the clock is really starting to tick for me.

Interesting, I interviewed WITH a faculty member. Did anyone else interview with a faculty member? Even more nervous now! My interview was this past Tuesday, 2/26.
RubySohoPDX Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Emjay, since your location says Philadelphia, I'm assuming you did the in person right? That could make a difference in the process.
bukowski Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 My interview was quite good-she assured me I did very well and she would give her highest recommendation. It was on a Friday and I received a phone call Monday morning 11AM. The interviewer seemed pretty direct; so you could sort of gauge what your chances are.
abbilybab Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Hey everyone, I'm flying to Philly for my interview tomorrow, and I'm wondering what sorts of questions are asked and what qualities the interviewers seem to be looking for. I can take a pretty good guess at which questions they ask, but unsure of how much they;re grilling you vs. getting a sense of your personality and interactional style. Any responses are welcome!
Jes Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Did anyone have an interview or apply to upenn dsw program? Good luck everybody!
LMNOPQRX Posted March 20, 2013 Author Posted March 20, 2013 So... my interview is tomorrow. Turns out Temple failed to send my transcript (although I UPSed it!). I was freakong out waiting for weeks before I found out. Uncool. Now its almost here. I havent prepared in a formal way at all- my plan is to in and 'be myself.' I know this is what i want to do and Penn is where i want to do it; im just going to let my passion, interest and experience speak, just as i have been doing for years with friends/family/coworkers, etc. hypothetically, at least. After all this waiting, the "moment of truth" is TOMORROW and im starting to worry that my approach and my "whatever happens happens for a reason" atittude may backfire. Ugh. Just venting. What would I do w/o the gradcafe? thank you all. phillygrad23 Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Good luck with the interview, I am sure you will do fine. Just relax and be yourself. I am kind of stuck in your previous situation, I applied late, actually after the priority deadline, but spoke to admissions and they encouraged me to apply so now I am impatiently waiting on an interview. Just curious is anyone else out there in my situation? Or those that have received interviews, how long after your submitted your application did you receive an invite? Thanks all and good luck!
