tip3r Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 I don't know about funding, haven't heard anything yet. But I'm planning a visit for the beginning of April so I'll probably ask them the chances of any type of aid, even work study. Also I think if you're thesis track, once you get under a professor you'll get at least some funding; or I'm just being hopeful? How are you planning your visit? Have you arranged it with the department? I'm trying to arrange to visit and speak to the faculty I'm interested in working with but with it being spring break I can't get in touch with anyone.
alui88 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 I'm arranging it through the grad coordinator via email, she's pretty prompt. Out of curiosity, which professor(s) are you interested in?
HappyEngineer Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Professor Jae Wan Park, I am interested in fuel cell systems. Otherwise, I would work on composite materials. What about you?
alui88 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I can't decide between fluids and structures, so I'm looking into Dr. LaSaponara and Dr. van Dam. I'm also interested in who they are going to assign to me if I do decide to attend, wish they tell you that as part of the acceptance letter.
HappyEngineer Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I was thinking about doing composite structure, too. In the past, I wanted to study hypersonic flow. Now I am more leaning towards structure since it has a much better job prospects. You said they will assign professors to us? I thought we get to choose?
alui88 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 From what I read, they initially assign an advisor but you can switch until the end of the first quarter, don't quote me on it though.
HappyEngineer Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 That's good if that's the case. I E-mailed the department about my admission decision. And the lady said let her know if I don't hear anything after May. I don't understand why it takes so long. Maybe I have been put on the wait list?
alui88 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 That is really late! I heard back at the end of February. Maybe they process California residents first? Though I would think they like out of state residents.
HappyEngineer Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 I really hope Davis will accept me. I have already got rejected from MIT and Texas A&M. Did you apply anywhere else?
alui88 Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 I got rejected at UC Irvine, UW. Still waiting on UC San Diego.
HappyEngineer Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I am still waiting on Boston University. They didn't even bother to reply my e-mail.
