For the environmental people out there... FES has apparently adopted a rolling admissions process this year, releasing some decisions the last 3 Fridays or so. All decisions will be released by March 8—one week from today. No idea if admissions offers were made today, as the Results board has yet to reflect any new entries.

Similarly, the Nicholas School has sent out decisions through February and will presumably continue through mid-March, as has been their tradition.

Has anyone heard from both schools? I was admitted to Nicholas in early February but was told that my application was still under review at FES and would not hear until March 8. I'm also unsure if FES has rejected applicants yet; perhaps all of the updates so far have been acceptances.

Best of luck to you! What's your background?

I'm beyond ready for my FES decision. I've got a scholarship application that must be completed in full by the 15th and also signed by a financial aid officer of the institution I'll be attending, so time is not a luxury right now. Nonetheless, Friday will be here soon.

Hi guys!

I too applied to FES and have been admitted to Duke. Have you received word from Yale yet? I'm being overly anxious and checking the website embarrassingly often...

Thanks!

Also, original poster Mocha, did FES staff let you know that all decisions will be released by March 8th? So kind of you to share this!

Yes, I had e-mailed to ask a couple weeks ago. We will absolutely find out on Friday!

What are your thoughts on the Nicholas School? Did you get a decent funding package with your acceptance?

Hi! I definitely like what I know of Duke's program and campus, but Yale is my top choice because they are the only environmental management program to offer a specific research project on EXACTLY what I want to pursue. It's been hard for me to properly celebrate all my acceptances while knowing I'm still waiting for my top choice...

And no, I got a relatively small funding package from Duke. So if Yale is a no go, I'll need to visit the other schools I've applied to and weigh them against the funding packages once those arrive.

And what are your thoughts on FES vs Nicholas? Feel free to toss in SPEA, SNRE, and/or Bren if you've applied there. I plan to attend Duke's visit weekend to learn a bit more about it (which unfortunately conflicts with Michigan's), and I've already visited SPEA.

I was admitted by SPEA too!

How was the visit? I am planning to go visit SPEA, but haven't really figured out my schedule yet.

Hello! I haven't heard anything yet, but I see 2 FES results updates added today on grad cafe. Please let me know when you hear something! I'm dying of anxiety.

Haha, that would be terrible. Oh man, I am useless at work right now!

Seriously! Please please come on here and let us know the moment you see our accounts have been updated!

And hey, we are all winners, regardless of what happens. Yes, I just said that.

Hello! I actually really love Indiana University, as my sister went there for grad school and I'd visited the campus before. It's surprisingly beautiful and charming.

It's tough for me to speak about SPEA as I haven't visited any of the other similar programs (SNRE, FES, Nicholas, Bren) so am unable to compare them. However, I had a wonderful time at the Fall Experience Day at IU and really sensed the students' enthusiasm, intellect, and camaraderie. Unfortunately, I most likely will choose to enroll in a different program, as my interests are in climate change science and communication, and that's not really one of their strengths as compared to the other schools.

I was incredibly impressed by the effort SPEA put into recruiting students (heck, they convinced me to fly out from California to their weekday Fall Experience Day!) and making us feel very welcome while on campus. I was put up by a few current students, so got a sense of what life would be like if I chose to enroll. Honestly, the program logistics are so similar for these schools and there is a lot of overlap among applicants... so I'd guess that most the programs are just as great. So, I'd be honest with yourself about what program offers your ideal research project, concentration, strength, or faculty member, and go there.

Sorry I couldn't be so helpful; at the time of visiting, I was trying to decide whether I wanted to pursue a more professional or academic degree, and my visit to SPEA (and another more research-oriented school) helped me decide to go in the direction of a program like SPEA's. Hence me applying to the full suite of environmental management programs. But do you have any specific questions?

Anyway, thanks for distracting me for a bit. I think it's been a whole ten minutes since I've checked my email! It's 2:19 in New Haven...

Thank you so much!! That was really helpful!!
The only concern that I have now is that I am Japanese and that I will be looking for a job at Japanese job market.  I understand what you actually do at the grad school is important, but Japanese companies do value prestigious universities.

Anyways, thank you very much for telling me your experience.

AND it's 3:15 in New Haven.....

Any news????

Good point! Prestige and school awareness is hugely helpful while looking for a job, especially if the Japanese market isn't aware of all the schools in the US.

And no, I haven't heard anything! My application is still at the submitted stage! You?

I'm definitely hoping. And convinced we'll have to wait til next week...

Sorry to both of you.

It's a relief to finally know, especially after a long day of waiting. I only applied to two schools and will be very happily attending the Nicholas School at Duke in the fall.
