NO. I did email Jill Quirk today (around 10am EST) to see if they'd be issuing notifications this week or next. No reply.

I can think of little else.

I too emailed Jill Quirk today inquiring about the timeline for decisions. Her response was slightly vague, "they have not made all assistantship decisions yet, should do so within the next 2-3 weeks. Committee was impressed with my packet...yada yada yada." I am not sure how to take this, but it is better than a rejection. Oh, i got the email around 3:15.

I was notified of my acceptance into Purdue's American Studies department about a month ago, but since one of my areas is English, I'm quite sure the reason I haven't heard about my funding package is the English department, since it is likely that I would TA there. (MA in English already with teaching experience).

This probably didn't help. I'm sorry!

I haven't heard anything, either. I guess I'll jump on the bandwagon and email Jill, also. I'll let you know if I hear back.

If it's true that they may not give accept/rejects until 2-3 weeks from now, would that encourage a sort of "run" on funding in several programs? I mean, if none of us who have received offers for funding from other schools hear back from Purdue until April 10th, wouldn't it make sense that between, say, April 10th-15th, many schools are shuffling to offer, re-offer, or rescind offers? This is my first time doing this, so I'm not entirely clear on how funding works, particularly if cutoff day is the 15th and programs are still emailing/calling people the few days before.

Guess that means if you've not been offered funding elsewhere, it's not off the table.

Now I wish I'd saved my email-o-desperation to Quirk. I emailed about a week ago and got a none-too-encouraging response, although it wasn't a rejection. Anyone know anything new about when we might hear from Purdue's English PhD program? :?: :?: :?:

As I mentioned above, she told me that within 2-3 weeks from about last Wednesday. She mentioned finances, so they probably don't know whats up with funding. If you check the results page last year it seemed to be a similar case. They are probably not sure what the cohort size is going to be, but this is just sorta optimistic guessing.

I am also waiting on Purdue, which is where I'm at for undergrad. When I get back to campus on Monday I'm going to go talk to Jill Quirk in person and some professors I know who are in on the process. I'll try to wring a timeline out of someone and post it. Be aware: the head of Purdue's grad program is a wonderfully intelligent man with absolutely no understanding of how the real world works (ie how much it drives us all crazy to wait this long...)

Hey guys, I am still going to ask my professors about a timeline, but as for me personally I found an acceptance letter in my mailbox when I got home from spring break today! :D

I don't know why they're not sending emails, but it looks like they sent out snail mail late last week.

Hey picc,

Thanks for the heads-up. Out of curiosity, where do you live, and did you receive anything about funding? I Apologize for the nosiness, but you know how it is.

Yaggles -- no worries on being nosy; I completely understand. I'm originally from South Bend, Indiana. Obviously, now I'm from Lafayette most of the year, which is fine by me. It's not a particularly exciting town, but there's a lot going on on campus. And as for funding, yes I did hear about that as well. In the envelope with my acceptance letter was a letter about a TA assistanceship they're offering me. It's not much--12 grand per academic year after fees--but it's more than I ever had as an undergrad.

I feel so much better now that this whole waiting process is over. True, Purdue is the *only* place I got in, but at this point after this brutal application season I am certainly not complaining. The MA program is pretty solid here, and I know lots of MA students who are happy in the program.

Hope to see some of you here next fall!!

So, I emailed Jill Quirk yesterday... and this was her response:

While your application was well received by the committee, it did not make the top tier of our rankings. Because we only admit applicants with funding, we don't anticipate being able to offer you a teaching assistantship. We wish you all the best in your graduate studies.

What does this even mean? Can't she just say I'm rejected... close but no cigar...

Ugh. I hate this year.

I have a feeling that they are afraid to outright reject some people. I don't even know what to make of her response to you. It makes no sense at all right now. I feel your frustration. I have a feeling a similar response is headed my way, as somebody posted in the results they received acceptance email. Gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pic- Congrats on your acceptance and funding. Good luck, and I wish you the best. I hope to see you there too, but as of now it is not looking likely.

I am actually pretty mystified and stupefied. I emailed Jill this morning--let me mention that at least she is on top of her game-- and she emailed me back instantly saying she has not heard any news about my app. I have no clue what this means. At least its still 'in the running,' but from other peoples' reports it does not really make too much sense.

:x I wonder how an unofficial WL differs from an official. Got to give it to the creativity in concocting a new category for App Statuses.Thank god at least I am not on the dreaded Weight list. Oh wait, does that supercede the UWL? This has been going on for way to long; torture-light.
