Hey gang, just checked the applyyourself website and my status changed to "Acceptance Denied" or something like that, so you might want to check there (if your status hasn't changed, I'd hold out a little hope if I were you). While I'm a tad disappointed, I was well prepared for it and feel a little relieved just to have closure. Good luck to the rest of you, no matter if you get in or not.

Oh god, this stress is killing me. Can somebody please convince the person in the other thread not to go to Purdue. I feel like it would be bad karma to throw my 2 cents in, and I would only be sarcastic. This will probably all be for naught..Existential nightmare. ahhhhhh. Where is Orinincandenza when you need him? And where is Vechrite?

Yaggles,

The person from the other thread is Comp. Lit. -- Wouldn't make much difference, as Comp. Lit. and Lit. are vastly different ;)

I e-mailed this morning asking for my status. I indicated that I would like to know my situaiton, because I have been accepted to two other schools and needed to give them an answer by today. Jill told me that there were not enough TA positions at the time, and later the website showed my application was denied. I suppose I could have just waited it out, or asked for an extension from my other schools. I just wanted to know straight up what the situation was. I am happy with where I am headed for the PhD, and honestly the way Purdue handled its admissions process was really off-putting anyway. I know they were shorter on funding this year (supposedly), but I would have preferred a rejection rather than being hung out to dry until April 15.

Hey Tug,

I know exactly what you mean. I finally got a letter, but ONLY after calling to find out my status. If it makes you feel any better, a friend of mine who has a sister in the department told me that funding for the graduate program was seriously cut. I think I would rather find out now than get half way through the program and have my funding reduced or cancelled.

My online status still hasn't changed, so I have no clue what the deal is. I'm not really concerned anymore, and frankly I'm very glad that I'm not going to Purdue in the fall since they haven't shown me their best side. Also, if funding has been seriously cut as you say, even better that I'm not going there. This isn't to cut on anyone who is attending, but I'm very happy with the program I accepted.

Does anyone think that Purdue has done harm to its program/potential attendees because they have waited this long? Just a thought.

Hey guys, I thought I'd help out some. I know for a FACT that Jill is still working her way down the waitlist. So now you're at the mercy of how quickly her contacts respond to her.

You're right. They're only offering people they can fund and the funding is roughly 13-14,000 to my understanding.

Hope this helps someone.

Oh, and to answer the last post: it's hard to answer that. I'm not trashing the program at all. I mean, as UF has told us, in this incredibly competitive year, schools are deciding upon degrees of excellence, so I'm certain every candidate being offered a slot is qualified. However, it IS late in the game...
