George Washington - Higher Education

I was just wondering if there were any people who attended the Admitted Student Day this past weekend at George Washington.  I wasn't able to go, but am planning on visiting the school later this month.  Was it informative and any positive or negative takeaways from it?

I've been admitted to the Higher Education program so I'm also trying to land one of the fellowships as well.

Overall I have had a really hard time communicating with the school.  Maybe it's just because the other schools I've been talking with are really on top of their game, but with GW I'm feeling a little in the dark on everything.  I know they are busy at this time of year, but I never get a response from emails or calls.  Anyone else had a similar experience or am I I just the lucky one!?

I went to the Admitted Students day! I was accepted to the Museum Education program. The best part was that you got to have breakfast with your program advisor/director and other admitted students; I found that the most helpful part of the morning. Most of the day was taken up with different panels, ranging from research-based stuff to life-at-GW-in-D.C. type stuff. I certainly found it helpful, but like you, I've had some trouble sussing out what GW exactly wants sometimes. I think their website could use a redesign in particular. Now that I'm in contact with specific program people I feel much more in the know, but I'm still confused about things like funding that are out of the realm of the specific program.

Thanks merrysoprano. I'm glad that you found the event helpful. There are a lot of things I like about the program for what I'm interested in. Hopefully someone gets back to me so I'm able to meet with a few people when I visit in a couple of weeks. At the event did they give a presentation about scholarships, graduate assistantships and general financial aid?

They did give out some information about financial aid. Basically, what I gleaned was this:

1) assistantships are almost never given out to master's students; only to PhD students

2) there is some merit-based aid, but it isn't a huge amount (depends on the program)

3) most need-based aid is federal aid (or: loans)

I got a merit-based scholarship, but I decided to go with another school. I hope this helped a bit though!
