outliers1 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Just wondering if Canada follow this deadline as well? It would be much easier to decide on admission offers if they do.
bedmas Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Canadian schools do not. If they offer a deadline to make a decision (mine were between 11-21 days), then unless you request more time, you need to decide pretty quick!
outliers1 Posted March 13, 2013 Author Posted March 13, 2013 Thanks! My favorite school will not release decisions until April, so it does put me in a weird situation where I am not sure whether I want to hear back from the admissions of my 2nd, 3rd, 4th choice etc..I see that you got accepted to SFU. SFU was 2nd on my list but I haven’t heard back from them yet. Not sure if that is a good thing or not...
bedmas Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 April is so late! SFU was my top choice and the first one I heard from, so that made things a lottt easier. I heard from them at the end of February, maybe send them an email and ask when you can expect a decision? When I had questions I emailed their graduate secretary, who always replied really quickly & was very helpful
TakeruK Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Sometimes if you email a school that is expected to make their decision later and let them know that you have an offer from another school, they might expedite your application process. When I was applying to MSc, one school made an offer in early Feb (and gave me 3 weeks to respond) while another school's application deadline was not until March! I asked the first school for a little bit more time and explained to the second school that the first school is expecting a decision from me. The second school ended up making a decision on my application before its application deadline had passed! So, communication can help make the deadlines easier for everyone!
outliers1 Posted March 14, 2013 Author Posted March 14, 2013 Thanks guys! These are great suggestions. I will email the admissions coordinator to find out.
