msadult Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Hi there, As luck would have it, I moved during the waiting time. Recently I have been emailed by UW COPHP (waitlisted) and UIC (accepted) and BU (conditional upon completion of a class) so I am wondering if anyone else is hearing about admissions via mail. My fear is that acceptances are via email, rejections are via mail, and my mail is lost. Any insight? Especially about the HSB concentration from UC Berkeley, UW regular, Yale. Thanks!
ak48 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Search results page to see if any results under "postal". Most seem to do electronically, but there are a few that do postal (notably Harvard, it seems). The admissions website for the actual programs generally tell you how as well.
VBD Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Yale SPH notifies through an email telling you to check the app website which then has an uploaded letter for you. UW (Seattle -- which is what I assume you mean by regular) notifies by email. No idea about the others, but most likely email. AK48 is right, Harvard is one of the few SPH's that notify acceptances and rejections by postal mail. Yay pretty letterhead. Also if you are truly worried about losing mail, you can register your new address at USPS's change of address website - https://moversguide.usps.com/icoa/icoa-main-flow.do?execution=e1s1&_flowId=icoa-main-flow&referral=MG80 - which forwards your mail for like a month for a low cost. Last year, I only paid a dollar for it.
msadult Posted March 13, 2013 Author Posted March 13, 2013 Thanks for the info. I accidentally wrote my forwarding address incorrectly on the USPS site (put a 1 where a 4 should have been- oh the error!) and corrected it last week, after my mail was forwarded from my incorrect address to the post office, so my mail is somewhere around the Burmuda Triangle, I bet. Oh the wait game. Congrats on your acceptances thus far!
VBD Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 (edited) Also, I need to add that UW contacted me through my cell phone in addition to email so your phone may be a safeguard. Aw thanks Msadult. That's a bummer about the 1 -4 mistake but hopefully it didn't affect anything Best of luck to you during your waiting game. Edited March 13, 2013 by VBD
mpheels Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I received all of my decisions by email. My official UNC rejection was through an email directing me to their applicaiton website (received about a week after I emailed to ask, and recieved an immediate reply from a human). Both JHSPH and South Carolina sent acceptances via email. The program directors for both schools emailed me directly to let me know I was accepted. I received an applyyourself notification from JHSPH the next day. Both programs sent hard copies in the mail, which I received a few days after the email notice. Oddly, I received a hard copy of my JHSPH waitlist notice the day after receiving the acceptance letter. From my experience and the notice board, I think acceptances tend to come through as either phone calls or personal emails followed by "official" emails/hard copies.
