Lamantin Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 In speaking to a potential advisor, I was told that the MA program is really only a doorway into the PhD and that it's expected that most MA students will continue on. Of course, the program does accept several people with MAs straight to the PhD, but most come through their MA program first. Is that considered typical? I'm curious to know if others think of this as a potential weakness of the program.
JosephineB Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I am confused. How could this be construed as a weakness? This seems like a strength when you consider the alternative - programs that won't accept their MAs into the phd track.
mooncake88 Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 As far as I know, this was the traditional structure for most graduate programs. A lot have switched to a dual track (mostly due to budget concerns, it seems), but like the above poster I would only consider this a good thing.
