I applied to the MA program in Applied Archaeology at the IUP back in December but haven't heard anything yet. I'm getting a bit worried since the department doesn't have a deadline but makes decisions on a rolling basis, and it's said for a couple of months that my application is under department review.

My question is: on the site it says that the deadline for applications for financial assistance is March 15. Does this mean that the graduate committee is going to meet after this time to make select applicants? I emailed the admissions office and they said that they didn't have any information on my application since it's still being reviewed by the department.

Also I submitted an application for the summer field school and one of the professors emailed me saying he was looking forward to meeting me this summer. I thought that this was a good sign but I'm not sure whether or not that they allow people who aren't IUP students to attend the field school.

What do you guys think? Should I be worried?

I dont know about your specific program, but I had a school that didn't stop taking applications until July! Thats completely crazy considering the school year starts in September. They had a 'scholarship deadline' of December 15th. They sent out the vast majority of their admissions as if this was the "deadline". It seemed to me that most people considered the scholarship deadline as the real deadline, because who really wants to be excluded from getting money?

Anyway, the short answer is I am 90 percent sure that the school will send out a big batch of admissions / rejections than review the others as they come in. March 15th seems late to meet for the first time, but I guess its possible. Maybe they make quick decisions. I am pretty sure one of the other schools I applied to didn't start reviewing applications before then. I just got a notice two weeks ago saying my application had been sent to the graduate department. Ugh, it seems to take forever. I don't think you should be worried yet.
