afitz15 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Hey guys! So I really have no idea where I want to go to for next year's graduate program. I have a lot of great options. I think I'm interested in TBI/concussions/cognitive ability, but all locations will have good hospitals for me to do clinic work at... Any opinions on these programs? Admitted: Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Bowling Green, University of Tennessee Rejected : UNC Chapel Hill
midnight Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Congrats! Have any of the schools offered you aid that might help with your decision?
afitz15 Posted March 26, 2013 Author Posted March 26, 2013 Bowling Green offered me 1 year paid with a stipend to teach, but they aren't in an ideal location - they're in a rural part of Ohio and within a 25 minute drive of a bigger city with some hospitals and clinic sites.
afitz15 Posted March 26, 2013 Author Posted March 26, 2013 OSU - high rank, current undergrad, close to family and boyfriend, nice clinic and awesome hospitals, but no professors with similar interests Pitt - high rank and unique program, medical focus, not to far from home BG - safety school but got a LOT of money Tenn - unique TBI research going on with lots of on campus clinic sites Cinci - close to home, good ranking, awesome hospital, metropolitan city
midnight Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 I'd probably pick Pitt, Cincinnati, or Tennessee based on your info, but I know that doesn't narrow it down much. Have you visited the programs?
afitz15 Posted March 26, 2013 Author Posted March 26, 2013 I've visited all of them.. I think my top are Ohio State, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh. Pitt would be an awesome choice but it's so dang expensive. How important do you think it is to have a professor with similar interests at the school? I know all of the faculty at OSU, and the clinical faculty has TBI interests. There are a lot of patients that come through the clinic with various neurogenic problems.. afitz15 1
