I have been accepted to several schools but still waiting on others, my 1st choice,2nd and 3rd...With only 2 weeks left I am very frustrated because I have to make a decision by April 15th and it seems that these 3 schools are taking their time answering!

On their websites they state that students should receive an answer sometime in April, however this is very vague.

Do most programs (MA) abide by the april 15th deadline?

I have already contacted several schools by phone but they still have not decided on admissions. I really need to know by the 15th...

What is your advice?

Should I hassle them if they don't give an answer by next week?

I applied in February.

Any experience with long waits?

Totally been there.  I applied in January and in the last 2 weeks have heard back from 6 of 7 schools.  It was completely nerve-wracking.

I'm in your same boat, one of my top picks is of course the 1 that hasn't gotten back to me.

My big problem is with financial aid; most schools won't let me know how much I've been awarded unless I accept their offer.  I'm not sure if it's like that for every program, but it's true of mine.  I was talking to a friend about it and she said if I was really on the fence, I could pay the $100 deposit fee at two schools, and then make my choice after hearing their offers, and back out of one.

It might not be the most "honest" or "fair" way to go about it, but when money is so tight like it is right now, it makes sense.  Maybe it would work for you too?  Accept your top choice of the ones you've heard back from, but back out if you get a better offer?

Also, I've totally called admissions departments and asked when they expect to make their decisions by.  Not *what* the decision is on my application, but when they expect to know by--I explain that I've heard back from other schools and I'm on a deadline to decide.  Most admissions people are happy to let you know a timeframe; a few schools even said they'd try to speed up the process.

Good luck!!

Thanks for your answer. This is very weird that they don't actually let you know about financial aid before committing. The schools that accepted me either let me know about assistanship , fin aid immediately or within 1-2 weeks.

I have contacted the schools that I am still waiting for but they either had no answer yet or said they'll have one shortly.

I have heard though if I accept and then try to decline after April 15th, I might be responsible for paying for that year and that that looks really bad.

So I think it is best to avoid that if one can. Hopefully I'll get some answers next week...Very stressed right now!
