GMtest Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 (edited) I’m glad to receive the recommendation notification from the Geological Engineering program I applied. I’m so happy and check the application status frequently these days. However, a few days ago, the Status Description at MyUW changed as below: 「The Graduate School has requested additional information from your program. This page will be updated on receipt of this information.」 When I google this sentence and asked some friends who applied UW-Madison too, I find that no one have this status ever. Does here anyone have same situation as me? I'm afraid they had lost my documents or something like that... P.S. I'd sent email for the program but not receive any response yet. Hopslam Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 It means that the graduate school cannot verify your credentials and need additional information from the department. This can be due to a missing transcript or if you do not meet the graduate school's minimum requirements, like GPA.

I sent the letter to graduate school already to ask what it mean exactly.
GMtest Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 The letter from graduate school: Unfortunately your GPA is slightly low for the admission standards for the Graduate School. The program has to submit what is called a "Pro-sheet", which is basically a written explanation on why they are recommending your admission with a low GPA. So sad..I hope everything's gonna be alright... .
YokedBrah Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I haven't heard from UW-M for EE PhD period. Fortunately I couldn't really care less

I have also been recommended by my department to the grad school, but my GPA is a little low. I was already asked to support my application by a professor in my department b/c of my GPA and he replied and said he recommended me for admission. I also just met with another professor from my department today and it seemed to go well. Did you experience any professors in your department asking you to defend your GPA? My status still says "The Graduate School will be reviewing your file." I'm so nervous!

My time line as below: 3/15 deadline 3/27 recommend, and received letter from department 3/29 additional information, only status changed without any email to notify me. I sent my Facebook to you. Maybe we can talk on it! Edited April 11, 2013 by GMtest
GMtest Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 "The dean has approved your admission, on probation, which means you'll need to get a 3.0 gpa during your first semester." WOW
