ProfH Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Has anyone applied here? Or know anyone who currently (or in the past) attends Kent State? I'd like some feedback on their English department, specifically their PhD program. Thanks!
theorygrrl Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I know a few people who got BAs or MAs at KSU, and a couple of people who seriously considered applying to their PhD program this year but didn't. Funding is extremely hard to come by; word on the street has been that they only fund one person a year in lit (more in comp), and that the university has threatened to eliminate the PhD in lit program altogether. I'm not sure how accurate the elimination rumor is, but I would definitely do some research if I were you. Kent is a decent place, if you like cold, snowy winters. The university has a solid reputation, particularly in northeast Ohio, and the faculty are reportedly friendly and willing to work with you. Best of luck deciding. . . .
mteutsch Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Please, don't tell me that. I applied and got in. However, I haven't heard anything about funding yet, so I hope I receive some. I'm wait listed for funding at teh University of Louisiana Lafayette.
