SLPtoBEweee Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Hey guys! Question - Has anyone who is considering taking (or has taken one) a position as a GA, how do you think all the timing works out? I think most require up to 20 hours a week, but I am curious..... If you have class 10-12 hours a week, GA work 20 hours a week, how much time is left for practicum? How long does practicum last each week?! I am just starting to worry a little and was curious if anyone has any opinions/info on this.
katieliz456 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 From what I've heard, the good thing about GA positions is that they are super flexible & work around your class and clinic schedule. Outside jobs might require 6-hour shifts, but with a GA position you could come in to grade papers/code data/etc. for 45 minute blocks between classes. Also, there wouldn't be any commute time between work and school, which would be nice:)
SLPtoBEweee Posted April 11, 2013 Author Posted April 11, 2013 Ooooooo that's a really good point. I didn't think about that. I'm sitting here thinking, how on earth can I fit in even like a 4 hour shift?! But squeezing it in here and there sounds much more doable. I hope my programs are like that!
