Hi everyone,

I'm currently a studying Electrical/Electronics engineering in Nigeria and I'm confused on what aspect of the course to specialize in. i need advice on which area suits my interests and abilities perfectly. I enjoy the Power courses we do in school but I perfect excellently well in my programming courses because I find them easy. I dread control systems and as for communications I find that pretty interesting. I've also been considering going into Electronics.

Above all, whatever i want to do in the future has to be greatly linked with programming. Thanks

Hmm, you might like embedded systems and robotics- those are popular course among electrical engineers who enjoy programming.

Robotics is pretty heavy in control systems. Computer architecture is another good field for those who enjoy programming.

Why don't you like controls? It's no more mathematical than communications.

I think my preference for communications is due to the fact that there's a fast growing communications industry in Nigeria. Many satellite TV providers, telecommunications companies, TV and radio stations around whereas there isn't a single Robotics company in Nigeria(I'm not aware of any). So we can easily relate what we do in class to what's going on around us. Same applies to Power. And also I'm actually looking at going into something new

Ah, well if your reasons for disliking particular topics is based on job markets, then I second ConGrUenCy's suggestion and go for embedded systems. It's heavy in programming, is applicable to most fields in EE, and there are plenty of companies looking for people with embedded programming expertise.

I don't dislike it per se, i don't find it as easy as I find the other areas. I'm a very open minded person. If you think Robotics is good, I won't mind if you could recommend some articles or videos that'll enlighten me on Robotics and control systems in general.
