TheHecticGlow Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Hi everyone! I applied for an MS course in ECE at CMU. I was rejected, but I received an alternate offer for a dual degree program from SYSU-CMU Joint Institute of Engineering. It costs about $40k spent over 4 semesters- the first at CMU and the remaining at Sun Yat-sen University, China. Since this is the first time the dual degree is being offered, I have no way of gauging the level of coursework/ research. Has anyone else received a similar offer? What are your thoughts? From what I gather, I'd be taught largely by SYSU profs, except for the occasional online course/visiting prof from CMU proper. SYSU itself is a decent school, but not one of the best. Also, I'm told Guangzhou (where SYSU is located) is not particularly safe for a single student. Any SYSU students out there? If anyone has any insight as to the kind of student community (diversity etc), safety and quality of teaching/research as well as postgrad job opportunities at SYSU, let me know. Please do weigh in with your thoughts and opinions, either way. I've got until May 10th to reply with a formal decision. Thanks in advance!
Dilkad Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Hey, I have a similar scenario. CMU ECE reject but got an admit into CMU-SYSU JIE program. Any suggestions??
