PeteZahut Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Is anyone else considering Rockefeller? This was pretty much my 'safety' school and it is the most inexpensive option for me. Ranked #14 in USNWR but not sure of its "name recognition" outside of New York state... Any thoughts?
Demetrios2011 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I have talked to several people who make hiring decisions in public admin, including in local, federal, and state government agencies. They generally seem to put schools in groups (and most didn't know USNWR even has mpa rankings) based broadly on percieved strength, but most mentioned that where someone went to school is not much of an issue. One even said that beyond HYS at one extreme or a directional state school at the other, it makes no difference whatsoever where you go to school. In any event, the ones who cared seemed to lump Syracuse, Cornell, Columbia, and NYU (in no particular order) in one category, with Albany and a handful of other NY schools being in a somewhat lower category (although still respectable.)
