My scores from the first GRE scores are: V 157 (73%), Q 169 (98%) and AW 3.5 (30%).

I retook the test and scored: V 158 (77%), Q 162 (86%) and AW 4.5 (73%).

I'll apply to top schools such as Stanford, MIT and UCSF. These schools did not specify the minimum GRE scores nor the average scores obtained by the enrolled students. I'll definitely choose the scores from the second test but I'm wondering if it's worth to retake again just to boost my quantitative section. Or is 86% percentile in quantitative section good enough for a biomedical science program even in the top schools.

Any advice will be much appreciated!

You are clearly capable of much better on quant, so if possible, take it again. Improve every aspect of your application to the optimum degree possible.

I agree with Tupamaros. You have the potential to do extremely well on the Q portion, so make the most of that upon retake: Manage your time well, read the questions carefully, don't make sloppy mistakes.

Also, if you took the test recently, check the GRE diagnostic service to see what questions you gave you the most trouble in both Q and V so you can make the most of studying. It might be a good idea to do at least two or so complete timed writing exercises for AW, too, since it looks like you essentially retook the test in the first place to do better on that portion.

Good luck!

Thanks for your advice! Time to start preparing again.
