tolo Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Hi, I just got in SAIS's M.A. program, with the international policy concentration. However, I really want to study the IDEV track. I misunderstood the IDEV admissions requirement when I applied, so I ended up applying for the int'l policy instead....now I just realized it... :x So I wondered is it possible to switch to IDEV after enrollment? Or should I talk to admissions committee about this now?? Any information will be appreciated!!! thanks!!
supernova_barber Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 The IDEV program offers limited seats and usually is competitive. Usually many students would line up for the spot,in case if someone dropped out of the program, which rarely happens!!. So I'd say it's pretty tough switching from IP to IDEV.
polisciworries Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Yeah, you'll have a hard time switching because they've capped enrollment in Idev. The program size exploded the past couple years, so they're trying hard to keep it from swallowing the rest of the school. All that being said, if you're determined to do Idev, you can take many of the same classes they take - just switch to general IR and then you'll have a relatively flexible schedule to pick up Idev classes that you can get into. Won't be the same as the actual Idev program, but you'll get a rounded IR/Idev degree (and, it's important to note that many non-Idev people end up in the development field after graduating, so you won't be limited by not doing Idev).
