skz Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Hey guys, So I've finally heard back from all my schools, and have the choice of the following (in no particular order): American, GPPI, JHU (IPS), Maryland, USC, and UCLA. Discounting any funding, how would you rank those schools in terms of their social and education policy programs? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
chellie99 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I don't have a great answer for you skz, but my area of interest is also education, child & family and social policy (different schools for me: HKS, Harris, GPPI, GSPP, Duke), so I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts on which programs are particularly strong in education policy. I have had some exposure to GPPI - and they have a Center for Research on Children in the US (CROCUS) that is really strong and some great professors focused on social policy -- Education, Social and Family Policy is a policy track option. Unfortunately, I don't know much about the other schools you're considering.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about the other schools you're considering. When I was applying to schools, I was able to find professors engaging in research focused on education policy at the five schools you listed. I really need to sit down and take a more in depth look at the courses and professors to see which school would provide the best education policy track. I'm focusing on Duke and Michigan myself so I'll let you know what I find.
skz Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 Thanks chellie99 - I'm waiting for any possible funding from GPPI before I really consider whether it'll be worth it, since it's really quite expensive! I'll be talking to some of my professors soon (hopefully) about the schools, so when I find out more information about the schools from them I'll try to post it here.
