Amadeus_Z Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Hi everyone, I am a Chinese undergraduate student studying at University of Liverpool,UK, and I'm planning apply 2014 fall US M.S. program. Just now I checked my level 2 marks, only 55%... look like I have to try my best to get a 2:1 degree. My GRE is verbal 150, quantitative 166,Writing analytic 3.0 not so bad... Any way, the only thing I'm worried about is my GPA, how can I maximize the probability of getting admitted? TOP 100 school is all right. I need your help, truly! many many thanks!!!
PoliSwede Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Top 100? I don't feel like that should be a problem. I'll say two additional things. First, I don't know much about British GPAs (nothing at all really). I'm not sure how they look at those in the applications process. But yes, the general idea is that low GPAs hurt your application and that it doesn't work to your advantage. Second, what you should remember is that your GPA is only part of your application. You have other pieces like your personal statement, GRE, research ideas/proposals, letters of recommendations and so on. As a general advice, you should attempt to make up for your GPA in other parts of your application. Take the SOP for example. Write a draft. Then rewrite. And then do it again. And keep going until you can't do anymore with it. I'm sure you'll do just fine! Remember to spread out your applications and don't just aim for one or two schools.

Many thanks Lemeard, my grade is equal to US standard B level, if transform to GPA it's about 3.0 or 3.1. And yes I'm trying to make my SOP more attractive...do you have any suggestion on it?
