dlr129 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 No school that I want to apply to requires the GRE, but some list it as "optional." Is it worth it to take it? Is there any chance it could boost my chances of getting in if I get a good score, or is it not worth the time and energy (and money)?
Kristopher Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Most MSW programs require the GRE if you have a GPA below 3.0. I graduated with a GPA of 3.04 and didn't take it and I got in to Ohio State. So I would say if they don't require it, don't bother. Too much work and stress.
agentofchange Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I agree with the post above. Many MSW programs do not require the GRE if your GPA is 3.0 or higher. The University of Alabama (where I am going for my MSW) recommended taking it anyway for school-wide scholarship purposes.
michigan girl Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I think MSW programs in California require the GRE. Other states do not require the GRE for admission.
mpainter Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Right now at least, I think the only program in California that absolutely requires the GRE, despite GPA, is SDSU. And even there from what I've heard, that university really just cares if you get 4 or higher on Analytical Writing. Many other California schools, including Chico State and UCLA both require the GRE if your GPA is below a 3.0
