howdoiknow Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Hello everyone, I am an American 4th year undergraduate at a large state university in NY. I love to travel, so I have been looking into getting doing my masters in Germany. I have a few questions about my qualifications and finances. Background: ~3.4 GPA, B.S. in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology combined major, with a minor in geography. - Did a year abroad in Ireland, which was a good experience. - Did 1 semester of research in the field of physical chemistry as a freshman - Currently working in a molecular biology lab (expect to continue through the academic year); this will bring me to ~ 4 semesters worth of undergraduate research experience Will I be able to get into a German University such as Ruhr University Bochum or the Technical Institute of Dresden. Also, do I have a chance of getting a good DAAD scholarship? Any information would be great! Thank you!
DeleteMePlease Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 In my opinion it is much easier to get into a German grad program. There is nothing like the GRE and most schools don't ask for LORs or SOPs. I suggest you jusst check the schools website for the admission criteria. Normally, there is just a minimum GPA ("numerus clausus") that you need to have to be accepted. I have no idea how to convert an American GPA to a German one. Again, I recommend just contacting the school. Its international office should be able to help you out.
openspacem7 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Yes, those credentials sound ok. Look for the DAAD New York website (they have a very large presence in NYC) and just give these people a call. They're super nice and very eager to help you. There are also generous scholarships available to Americans. I would recommend TU Dresden, TU Berlin, RWTH Aachen, Munich, Karlsruhe (not necessarily in that order). Let me know if you have any questions.
