Hi everyone,

I am going to apply to PhD in Economics this Fall. Since I want to live in Santa Barbara (CA), I am looking for some universities which have Econ. PhD program nearby Santa Barbara. Of course I will apply to UC Santa Barbara, but I m not so confident about my probability to get admitted, I need to find other lower ranking Econ. schools. Please give me some advice. I really appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Hideaki

Well, Los Angeles is the nearest largest city, and there are a ton of institutions to apply to. For instance:

  1. California State University, Los Angeles
  2. California State University, Northridge
  3. California State University, Long Beach
  4. California State University, Humboldt
  5. University of California, Los Angeles
  6. University of Southern California, Los Angeles

If you want to limit yourself to only Santa Barbara, then there aren't many options other than hoping you'll get admitted there.

CSUs do not have PhDs in Econ. However, Most of the UCs do. Look at Santa Cruz, Irvine, and Riverside. Really, you don't have many options.
