Sending a score report twice to same school??

I'm not sure if anyone has done this, but I thought I would ask.

My first application deadline is Dec 1st. I have already taken the GRE and so I could send those scores now. I am re-taking it in November. My question is: if I go ahead and send my old scores, if I do better in Nov, can I send that score too?? So in other words I would be sending two score reports.

I guess the only problem would be if my LOR writers upload their letters before Nov, then my application will be complete and so I guess sending the newer scores won't matter.

Has this worked for anyone??

You're right, when your app is done, they tie it up in a pretty little bow and email it to all the being on your comittee and they all go "yes" or "no" or "maybe, blah blah blah."

 

Then the person in admissions takes all those votes/scores (some schools use rubrics) and come up with a yes/no/maybe response. The idea being that your "Full" app is seen and evaluated as a whole. Some schools do break things - especially scores - off into their own worlds to simply be a "good enough, not good enough, good enough plus possible scholarship" evaluation, but those are simple number crunching. It'll happen when the app is complete/submitted.

 

So.. long story short.. if your app completes they'll look at whatever is on file at that time.

Also - call/email whoever is in charge of your app and see what they say. Unless you did really bad i dont think scores will make/break you.

I think this would really depend on the school and how many applications they get. It's definitely possible to submit additional materials after the deadline and ask for them to consider them in your package. You can't expect them to do it though, but some of them will be willing to consider updated materials if you send them early enough in the process (e.g. before the first admissions committee meeting).

 

Also, you don't have to worry about your application becoming "complete" prematurely if you don't actually submit the application until just before the deadline. For most application systems, profs can upload their LORs before you actually submit and pay the application fee. For most of the schools I applied to, the LOR writers can upload as soon as I enter their info on that last page but I can continue to edit and upload/replace my own SOP etc until I finally hit that final submit button.

 

You can also ask the school admin people if you can submit your GRE scores later if everything else is on time. I wrote the Physics Subject GRE in Nov 2012 and my scores weren't available until mid-December 2012. For the schools with deadlines in early December, I just told them that my scores will be a week or two late and asked if that was okay. They all said it would be fine since their admissions committees don't actually meet until late January.

So I guess I could go ahead and order the GRE score report to be sent now, that way I will have something there. If I do better in Nov. then I will submit that (plus if the nov scores don't get there in time, then my app will still be complete and I can submit the whole thing).

I'm guessing that the admissions committee will go by whatever is the most recent submitted score report and disregard the other?????
