Research Grant Advisor leaving; considering other schools after Masters

Hello

 

I'm a first year grad student as well as a RA for a major grant (more on the applied side). My advisor, who employed me, is leaving for industry.

I'm seriously considering applying to some other Stat programs next year. What can I do now to increase my chances of getting into more programs?

 

BTW my current school is not know for its stat program.
