GnomeChomsky Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 I completely confused as to why University of Washington takes so long to make admissions offers. Even MIT, which I'm sure receives far more applications, managed to get their responses out weeks ago. Anyway, I'm mostly just venting since I do not plan to attend even if accepted, but does anyone have ideas as to why UW insists on taking so long to reply?
fuzzylogician Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 There are two posts on the results page from about two weeks ago, both posters were waitlisted. I guess that means that UW made at least its first round of decisions. If you're anxious to hear your results, you might want to contact the department and ask about your status.
GnomeChomsky Posted March 28, 2009 Author Posted March 28, 2009 Yeah, I was one of the waitlisted applicants, but I know a few other people who have applied there and heard nothing. Also, the wording of the waitlist email implied all the remaining applications were on the waitlist and that they wouldn't be making final offers for several weeks. Has anyone been accepted or just waitlisted? It's sort of irrelevant now, since I plan to accept another offer, but the whole thing strikes me as rude and I was hoping to find some badmouth UW buddies
ConceptualMetaphor Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 I don't know anything about UW, but since you've already decided to go elsewhere you could withdraw your application from consideration, both to help out other people on the waitlist and to get a bit of a snub in there (you're too good for them! ha!) since you feel they've been rude. That said, they probably can't get back to the waitlist applicants until after April 15th anyways, since they're waiting on responses from the first round. It's strange that they haven't said anything at all to some applicants, though. That's rather unfair. Btw, your forum screen name is quite amusing.
psycholinguist Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Btw, your forum screen name is quite amusing. Agreed!
nocturne Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I was accepted, but by the time they'd gotten around to offering, I had my heart set another acceptance. They e-mailed me to follow up because, being busy myself, I hadn't replied yet, and I informed them of my decision. I don't want to "badmouth" them, though; I assume they have a reason for making late decisions.
