accioanime
Is anyone applying for HGSE'S Teacher Education Program and encountered the additional Subject Matter Requirement? It pretty much makes you list down all the college courses you have taken for the subject you intend to teach. For History, the requirements are: US History, World History, Geo, Econ, Philosophy and Research. The website says: "our Admissions Committee places great value on candidates' level of preparation in the subject that they intend to teach. Although we do not require candidates to hold an undergraduate degree in their chosen teaching field, we do review candidates' applications to determine if certain state-required topics within the field have been addressed through prior coursework, research or work experience...Applicants to TEP are expected to provide a list of courses which they have taken that address each of these subject-matter requirements for their discipline." I am pretty worried because I haven't taken any of those classes in college because my major is Asian History. I haven't had US History, World History, Geography or Econ since High School. It took a few Philosophy classes for GE. I guess I can list down my Chinese History classes under World History. Does this mean my chances are slim since I pretty much did not take any classes under the other categories. I honestly feel awkward just leaving them blank even though the website says it "is not necessary" to have taken a course under each category :/ Anyone having a similar issue where they majored in something a little different than your chosen teaching field? Should I choose a different program instead, I think only TEP requires this. Edited October 27, 2013 by accioanime
