Applicant fall 2014, Phd in International Relations/ Pol Sc., Prospective Supervisors

Hi!

 

As a Phd applicant from India, I am writing to professors in the department whose research interest correspond with mine. But  American University, Washington DC told me not to write to individual professors as it was not required. Should I apply to AU or not? The program fits my interests but I am told that you must have a professor's backing to push your application through.

It doesn't work that way in political science, not normally anyway. If you think the fit is good, apply. There is no need to contact professors
