LOR from colleague/alumn: Yay, nay, or...depends?

I'm going bonkers over who to choose as my recommenders. I am applying to MBA programs. The cream of the croppers, yes.

 

One will be from a recent boss. While he's a solid choice, will write a great later, and is experienced and accomplished in the field I want to go into (marketing), he is currently unemployed. Is that a bad thing? Regardless of his current status, he was a stand out boss/employee and will undoubtedly craft an awesome letter.

 

Second rec is the tough one. I have a colleague (more senior than I) that is an alumn from the school I want to go to. He can definitely speak to my character and fit to the school, but would that in any way look bad to adcom? Or is it just the usual, "as long as it's a good letter" and somehow adds something different that is otherwise not mentioned in the rest of the app?
