evreigh Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Where should I look for sociolinguistics PhD Programs? I know about Georgetown, Stanford and Penn. Also UT Austin has linguistic anthropology, which might fit my research interests - language ideology, especially in the Arab World - but I would prefer a program housed in a linguistics department so I have more theoretical background. I am interested in language attitudes and code-switching more broadly. Thank you in advance for any information you can give!!
telianathegreat Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I'm sure users on here can give you more specific advice, but I would suggest doing what I did to find programs: look through the list of linguistics programs on Linguist List and just skim through their websites to see what research interests the professors have. It takes a long time, but then you know for sure that you've found all of the programs that could fit your interests. fuzzylogician 1
hoviariel Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I used this for my own subfield: http://www.linguisticsociety.org/programs But like telianathegreat said, you need to read the faculty profiles or just read their research keywords to know if you fit or not
