CrudeS Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Hello friends, I am applying for a Ph. D. in Finance for Fall 2014. Any advice regarding the no. of applications that I should go for and which colleges to apply are welcome.
unbrokenthread Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 (edited) The number of applications will be limited by a few things: -How much money you have to spend -How many hours you can put in before the application deadlines (these apps can take a long time...) -Your perception about the cost/benefit of applying to each -Your grades, test scores, etc. I applied to 7 departments across 6 schools, which is fairly conservative, but it's also all I could reasonably devote time to, as I have a lot of other stuff going on right now. I'm also in a fairly niche field and I have a lot of research experience, so that altered the way I approached my applications too. Application season is well underway, so it's important to look at deadlines when you pick schools; for instance, a couple of my schools' application periods end tomorrow, 1 December 2013. My latest application deadline is 5 January 2014. I'm not sure if finance schools are different, but I imagine that they're in the same general range. I'm not in your field so I can't speak to specifics about picking professors or institutions. Good luck! Edited November 30, 2013 by unbrokenthread CrudeS 1
