juanpv19
Hi I am new in this forum and I will really appreciate your help with some issues. First of all my GRE scores are V143 Q153 A3.0. I would like to know how well are them to start a Master degree in Industrial Eng. in one of the top 40 universities in the USA. I have a 3.1 GPA and I have been working for 5 years in a good company were I could get a manager position so the profile I guess is fine. I am an international prospective student and my toefl is 89. I have a very good recomendation from a teacher from Georgia Tech With those scores I could almost get the minimun requirements for universities for Example Georgia Tech. But I really dont know how bad or good are my scores to start an application. Someone told me that the Gre is not the only thing the commitee review. I want to retake the Gre in 15 days to improve the math and the anayltical writing. I really dont think I will improve my vocabulary score in this little time. Please I will reall appreaciate if you can grade these 2 essays. I will start giving my opinion of other essays posted too. ************************************************************************************************************************************************************ The following is taken from a memo from the advertising director of the Super Screen Movie Production Company. “According to a recent report from our marketing department, during the past year, fewer people attended Super Screen-produced movies than in any other year. And yet the percentage of positive reviews by movie reviewers about specific Super Screen movies actually increased during the past year. Clearly, the contents of these reviews are not reaching enough of our prospective viewers. Thus, the problem lies not with the quality of our movies but with the public’s lack of awareness that movies of good quality are available. Super Screen should therefore allocate a greater share of its budget next year to reaching the public through advertising.” Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the recommendation and the argument on which it is based are reasonable. Be sure to explain how the answers to these questions would help to evaluate the recommendation. In the argument presented the director of the Super Screen Movie Production Company wants to make a greater investment in advertising for the next year based on the fact that in the last year the number of Super Screen movie viewers were reduced and the number of positive reviews by movie reviewers were increased. He states that the problem is not the quality of the movie, but with the public lack of awareness that movie of good quality are available. The first question and the most important one we need to answer is why people didn’t go to see Super Screen produced movies. It is true that reviewers say that the movies were good but we don’t know anything about the people didn’t go. To answer this question it will be good to check the statistics of other companies. This will give the company a better idea if the problem in this specific company or if it is a problem for the whole market. Maybe people do not have money to go to see the movies or they maybe start to use Netflix and see the movies at home. Those are just figurative answers to the question Why some people stop going to see Super Screen produced movies. Based on the results of the above question we can check if the problem is on this specific company or it is a general problem. If the problem is specific on this company It will be a good idea to compare the information with the company that get the higher increase in movie viewers and then answer this question “ What is the difference between my company and the successful company?” This will show what the company did wrong or what the other company did better or what changed in the market. If then the problem is the advertising, the recommendation from the director will be a great idea. If the problem is that someone else did a better job, then the company needs to evaluate another solution and the recommendation is not valid. The same happens if the problem is the market. Another question that the company needs to answer is “Is the data correct?”. To understand statistics results we always needs to consider the universe before. Does the number of Super Screen produced movies increased the last year? If the answer is no then that can be a cause why the number of viewers was reduced, and this is fact shows that even that the number of movies presented were reduced the number of reviewers were increased. The results based in numbers are always relative and the company needs to consider all the environment to give reason to the values. These questions need to be answered in order to consider the recommendation the best solution for the problem or to think about another way to solve it. *********************************************************************************************************************************************************** The best way for a society to prepare its young people for leadership in government, industry, or other fields is by instilling in them a sense of cooperation, not competition. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position. What is the difference between the current world and the world fifty years ago regarding opportunities? Nowadays the world is being more and more competitive. Fifty years ago there were more opportunities, the markets were not full filled, there were more jobs opportunities, there were more business idea, the population was lower and the resources for those people were higher. The unique way to be successful in the current world in to survive, survive means be the best to get the best. A government leader should have the best preparation in order to lead and make the best decision for his people. To get that kind of responsibility he needs to be as high competitive as possible. Being competitive is the unique way to prepare a government leader because it provides better opportunities and challenge yourself to get the best preparation to afford that resposability First of all, being competitive is the unique way to prepare a government leader because it provides better opportunities. As its written above the current world is every day more and more competitive and the unique way to survive to that world and to get the best opportunities is by being competitive. In a job appointment the selected one is the best, there are no changes for the average or the cooperative one. If the first person who takes the appointment tell the other prospective applicants the questions that were asked, probably the next prospective can be more prepared and give a better impression, then the cooperative one will lose the job. Being competitive gives people to have the best opportunities. Second, being competitive is the unique way to prepare a government leader because it challenge yourself. A government industry leader needs to have the best preparation for that responsibility. In his hands probably will be future of the state, the nation or even the world. Being competitive gives prospective leaders the opportunity to compare with other and challenge themselves to get maybe post graduate degrees that improves their level of knowledge. In fact government jobs require many of these degrees and skills that only a competitive person can get. To conclude a competitive leader will get be the best one for lead that responsibility because competitiveness is the best quality that makes that person the best over other prospective aspirants. The slogan of one of the best colleges in Ecuador is “be the best to give the best”. Only by being competitive some can later help someone else. katethekitcat
Your biggest challenge here is going to be grammar. There were numerous grammatical errors throughout both of your essays, and unless these can be fixed, it's going to be quite difficult to raise your AW score above a 3.0. It's not impossible, but it's something that you might want to focus on improving. You should focus on using specific examples. You make statements such as, "Being competitive gives prospective leaders the opportunity to compare with other," but you don't follow it up with any facts or examples. For example, you could say, "The CEO of Amazon has had to constantly compete with other businesses - such as Barnes and Noble and Borders - and, as a result, has developed innovative business practices that made them the leader in book sales." Giving a specific, real-world instance that supports your point makes it stronger than simply throwing out an assertation. In your first essay, your entire first paragraph is simply re-stating the prompt. Don't waste space repeating what they've already told you.
