milinea Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 T.E.A = Taxed Enough Already. Tax revolt tea parties are based on the original Boston Tea Party. About 150 cities in the United States are demonstrating a dislike for taxes on April 15, 2009. To help with the protest, show up at the nearest city Tea Party, or contact Organizers of National Tea Party Day. http://www.teapartyday.com/ Ohio Cities with Tea Party Tax Revolts for April 15, 2009: Bring friends, flags and signs if you want to. http://taxdayteaparty.com/teaparty/ohio

belowthree Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 And then we can get together afterwards and decide which research grants won't get funded! DUDE You bring the grant proposals, I'll bring the red stamp that says "rejected" and we'll show those research people what we think about improving our world with our money! Yeah! It'll be a BLAST!

I plan to show up with a sign that says, "I want federal student loans and low tuition for public universities subsidized by the state, but refuse to pay taxes to fund these services!" JKBFSS 1
UnlikelyGrad Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I plan to show up with a sign that says, "I want federal student loans and low tuition for public universities subsidized by the state, but refuse to pay taxes to fund these services!" LOL! You just made my day!!
teaganc Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 So I actually looked at the website, and it was all, "OMG you guys, we have so much debt! It really sucks! . . . so don't pay taxes." Awesome use of logic.
HelloFeminists Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Alternately, there's a same-sex kiss-in campaign scheduled at Starbucks chains around the nation on tax day as a show of solidarity for all the same-sex couples who get SCREWED by not being able to have their relationship status recognized by the federal government, thus being forced in many circumstances to pay more money in taxes than they would if they'd been recognized as married and able to file jointly. That's the kind of righteous protest I can get behind. Link: http://www.samesexkissday.org/

Because Starbucks isn't run by the federal government, to my knowledge, or particularly gay-unfriendly. If I were going to do something like that, I think I would pick city halls or embassies or branches of the Fed, not Starbucks. I heard they are thinking about repealing DOMA, though, which I think will both solve this problem and also lead to the eventual fall of anti-same-sex-marriage legislation.
thepoorstockinger Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 So... uhhh... this didn't sound like it went well: The day of "tea parties" pushed by Republican operatives and partisan advocacy groups such as FreedomWorks, that sought to protest the Obama government's tax and stimulus policies by encouraging people to 'wave tea bags' brought about only a few hundred "tea-baggers" in most parts of the U.S., despite relentless promotion by Fox News TV hosts. Participants had hoped to rally hundreds of thousands of people to begin a grassroots movement that would force Obama to change government policy. But the turn-out was far from what was hoped for, with most rallies looking decidedly on the small side, especially compared to the 2006 immigrants rights rallies or the 2004 pro-choice march on Washington, both of which attracted millions. http://www.vancouversun.com/News/News%20sponsored%20parties%20fail%20ignite%20popular%20uprising%20among%20conservatives/1499732/story.html

DefinitelyMaybe Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Did someone say tea bagging? I've heard people calling them teabaggers all week and it's HILARIOUS!
