MastersHoping Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Hello, How detrimental would it be to have a couple of relatively bland recommendation letters? Out of my three recs, only one knows me super well, another fairly well, but the third one I barely knew him for half a quarter before I asked for a rec since I was in his class last quarter. There was just no other professor or instructor I formed any relationship with for a good rec.
bsharpe269 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I do think it will hurt a bit. Was there no one at your achool doing interesting research? I find the best way to form good relationships with professors is to read their publications and ask questions about them. Then they can write letters about how interested you are in research which is what you want.
MastersHoping Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 I'm sure there are plenty of people at my school doing great research. The only thing is, I'm applying to terminal masters programs and not really interested in doing research. Does the same still apply?
bsharpe269 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 No in that case I think it won't be a big deal. I think the letters are probably more important for phd to show a passion for research.
