@Stressica: I was in contact with the professor – got a personal invitation via mail and an answer on my reply, so I don't think the invitation was a mistake. I know that the group currently finished two important projects and therefore they'd been very busy, but it is a bit strange not to hear anything in the announced interview-week... :-(

 

I agree, this is unusual and I daresay poor form on the group's part. When I was contacted, we scheduled a date and time that same week. Since you have a personal contact, you could email him/her a short follow-up (nicely) asking about your interview. I'd like to think they wouldn't initiate personal contact unless they were serious. I'm sorry this is happening to you.

I intended to apply this year, but the group I applied to previously is not accepting students. I checked the Open House listing at least 20 times before realizing: "I don't understand, why aren't they--OOOH NO! NOOOOOO!"

 

My interview was conducted exactly a year ago this week. Keep in mind that my experience reflects only one application season and group. It could be very different this year.

 

I did not check the portal very often, but I think it had been updated around the time emails went out.

Does anyone know if all accepted students should be interviewed before? Is there any chance for someone to be accepted later with 0 interview?

I'm glad to hear you were able to get in touch with the professor. That is good news! I'm anticipating the day I check this thread and see "I had my interview!" It will happen.

Today I emailed the admission office and linked the two accept/rejects of the results page and asked if the results are out. They said they haven't sent any notifications but will do soon. I had my interview on Feb 26th with postdocs and a PhD of the POI, followed by a few emails regarding the ideas discussed during the interview. I also had a chat with POI about 4-5 months ago which was also a kind of interview. I reckon we'll hear the results very soon :s

Does anyone know how the wait list at the Media Lab works? Is it a group by group wait list or an overall lab wait list or something else altogether? Do many people make it off the wait list? Do all professors make their decisions this early or do some use it as a way to delay the decision/conduct interviews/etc (as implied by someone from past years' admissions results.) 

I know things at the Media Lab work a little differently and I can't find any info on the wait list, plus the ratio of wait listed:accepted students seems pretty high on the admission results page.
