242312 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 This topic is just for fun and likely doesn't have any real relevance. But hey, anything to distract us from waiting for responses from schools right? What are the programs in linguistics with the lowest acceptance rates?
hoviariel Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 That's easy. Just go to those ranking sites. The higher a school is, the more people it likes to reject.
inertia Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) I don't think rankings are a perfect reflection of acceptance rates. While the two are obviously somewhat correlated, I'd be interested in knowing which programs have had the lowest acceptance rates in recent years and what those rates are. hoviariel Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Some of the grad programs show thier acceptance rates on their site, like UPenn and its historical data table on the ling application page. Others can tell you the rate if you email them asking about admission stuff. And others keep it a deep dark secret. Either way, just apply to multiple places
242312 Posted February 13, 2014 Author Posted February 13, 2014 Wow, I just looked at the Penn chart you mentioned. Those numbers are crazy. Are those numbers typical of good programs? Or is Penn really one of the top of the top? I wonder what Stanford's data looks like, for instance.
hoviariel Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 If you're refering to the 10-ish% acceptance rate then yes it is typical for doctorate programs. For MAs, I have no idea but I assume there's much less competition because of no funding opportunities
