CrashJupiter Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Hello, all. I'm current a Master's student / teaching assistant at the University of South Carolina. I'm looking toward a postcolonial / contemporary world lit focus for my PhD, and will be applying in the fall for Fall 2015. I'm starting early because I want to thoroughly research and, hopefully, build some relationships with professors at these schools. I'll be graduating with a 3.9+ GPA and a thesis, but I am still unlikely to be a top competitor. I'm most interested in the Black Atlantic and transoceanic (Atlantic/Indian Ocean) studies and am attempting to build a strong base in postcolonial, queer, and utopian theory. Preferably, my PhD experience will allow a combination of all three. I would like any tips on programs to begin looking into and any warnings against programs that you may have. At this point, just about anything is helpful, so don't hold back. Thank you.
Creffecreve Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 You might want to look at Emory, and Pittsburgh. I applied for postcolonial too, but with a different focus. CrashJupiter 1

Also on the long list, which is very subject to cuts: Toronto British Columbia Purdue Indiana - Bloomington Rutgers WashU Penn Duke
hj2012 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I'd also look into UC Irvine, NYU and Columbia, especially if you have interests in South Asia. CrashJupiter 1

Thanks! I'm worried a bit about being able to afford to live in those places, but I'll check them out.
