Harold Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Area of Interest: Circuits Both schools are strong in Electrical. My aim is to get a job after graduation. But I do not wish to take a loan for studying. It may take around 6 years to complete the PhD program. while just 1.5 or 2 years in TAMU. CMU PhD is a fully funded program. TAMU fees are on a lower side. Which option is better?
PhDerp Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 (edited) I don't know anything about TAMU, but here's some information about CMU alums to help you make a more informed decision! Post-graduation salaries and statistics: https://www.cmu.edu/career/salaries-and-destinations/2013-survey/cit.html Specifically, here's ECE: https://www.cmu.edu/career/salaries-and-destinations/2013-survey/pdfs-one-pagers/ECE%20Post%20Grad%20Handout%202013.pdf Edited February 18, 2014 by PhDerp gorki 1
Harold Posted February 19, 2014 Author Posted February 19, 2014 Thanks for the info. But i think when someone replies with respect to Texas A&M University and keeping in mind the whole picture, there will be better discussion. Harold and gorki 1 1
Harold Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 Waiting for a input... Advice people ! Thanks
PhDerp Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 OHHHH, that's what TAMU is!! According to one website, http://hireaggies.com/guides/reports/SalarySurvey/2011/Spring/SalarySurveyResults_Spring_2011_generated_07-13-2011.html , EE Doctorates made: avg $97.6k, max $119k, min $70k. It says "Offers: 5", but I'm not sure what that means in this context... Anyway, I don't think you'd be hard-pressed to find work with a PhD in EE, especially if you look in California or Eastern Massachusetts. It also depends just what you want to do with it. The obvious big divide in PhD careers is: academia or industry? Hope this helps!
