nlalzebra Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Hi, I mentioned my research area as Databases while applying for Phd at UCI to improve my changes of acceptance but I am looking more into Data Mining/ML. I got accepted with the support of a DB Professor. Any idea how strict are they in working with the same Professor/area at UCI?
DeleteMePlease Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) I don't know anything about UCI but as far as I know it is common that people change their research areas during Ph.D. studies. But I would suppose the difficulty of doing so depends on the professors at the institution. If you find somebody that will take you over then it should be no problem. You should check if funding comes from the professor or the department. If the professor (or his/her lab) funds you directly, then it will be more difficult i guess.
