csgyy Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I'm in EE, going to apply for 2010 Fall PhD. I got a 3.00 undergrad GPA from Northwestern, a 3.65 M.S. GPA from UCIrvine. GRE V: 590, Q: 800, AW: 4.0 Two published top conference (ICASSP 2009, Globecom 2008) papers, one submitted 2nd author Journal. What's the possibility for me to get admission from Stanford/Berkeley/Princeton, since I heard of that they care undergrad GPA the most? Thanks.
noojens Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Most acceptances to top programs that I've seen definitely are in the 3.7+ GPA category. That said, you have a strong research background, so perhaps that will improve your chances. Does your MS advisor know anyone at Berkeley, Princeton or Stanford? Personal contacts always help.
blah2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Not good? EE people at these schools have near perfect backgrounds. Ph.D.students in EE are the cream of the crop and are culled from the MS class. That Master's GPA is kind of low unfortunately.

Will it help some?
AlwaysWorried Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person obsessed with going to a top 10 school in EE for graduate school. I wish that we could all just focus on getting the best education possible and care less about the name on the diploma at the end of the day.
