From what I read in the ME thread, you seem to be a really qualified applicant for Berkeley. But I faintly recall seeing the stats for grad students, and there were an alarming low number of MS students compared to the number of PhD students. I also have gotten the impression that Berkeley's ME department is not very wealthy since it is a public school and California's budget for public universities have been lowered, so you're unlikely to get funding. If you're fully funded at MIT or Stanford, I would give them higher priority. Stanford is also gorgeous and also in NorCal. But best of luck with Berkeley!

Thanks a lot for the input, I kinda was thinking the same regarding private vs public school funding.
