What is it with Mechanical Engineering departments?

All my friends applying for a degree in electrical engineering or computer science have received replies from most of the colleges they applied to.

 

Then there is mech - everyday there are a maximum of 5 new posts on the results page.

 

Is this normal i.e. does this happen every year? and WHY?
